Dipped in Indigo: End-of-Summer Denim
Yes, I know summer is over... but I had these photos and I couldn't just sit there and not post them! Why waste a perfectly good outfit?
The scarf on my bag is one of the pieces I made at Nomad Tribe in Wynwood, and it's the perfect compliment to this outfit. Indigo and denim were really big for me this summer... if you couldn't tell by the high waisted jeans, shorts and denim vests on rotation.
I'm also real serious about these bangs. I don't think I've ever felt more like myself than I have with them. When I was sitting in the chair the first time I decided to get them done again I had to push the hairdresser to go heavier on them... very similar to when I got my hair cut in 2014.
"No, I need it a little more dramatic. Please up the intensity."
Whispy thin bangs are just too weird-looking on me. I need to go big or go home.
A couple years ago my roommate and I were talking about the whole midi skirt trend and whether or not we'd look back on them and wonder why the heck we ever wore them in the first place. I think it's safe to say that we've both gravitated away from midi skirts... but I'm eyeing pleated, straight midis and thinking that I might just make a leap at them instead. Yes, I know I wore lots of poof in the past few years of blogging, but man did I feel weird and overly-feminine every time I did.
Capsuling has basically allowed me to accept my love of blue and neutrals, and work with them to make looks that are dramatic. Oh, and pants/shorts along with dresses are definitely more my style than ultra-femme skirts. No more trying to be Blair Waldorf.
After all, dressing is really just about accepting who you are and what your own aesthetic is... instead of listening to all of the noise around you.
Style Notes and Outfit Details
Denim Vest from Levi's // This was 100% my go-to piece in my wardrobe this summer. It was so easy to throw over anything and gave all of my looks an edgy American woman vibe.
Shirt from Franchesca's (similar) // I gravitated away from graphic tees for a while, but this one is just so fun that I couldn't resist of styling it... and styling this top isn't much of a challenge. P.S. it definitely says "But First, Brunch".
Joggers from Lucky Brand Jeans Co. // I was looking for just the right joggers that were the perfect blend of comfort and style, and these Lucky Brand beauties landed in my lap in the most serendipitous of ways.
Shoes from Forever 21 // These lace up ballerina flats stuck around for both my spring and summer capsules. I almost wish I put them in fall, too, because blush has become a year-round it color. They give any outfit a little feminine touch, which I definitely need every once and a while.
Sunglasses from Ray-Ban // I've had these since I was 16. No, really. This exact pair. Anna Wintour has her hair, I have my wayfarers. The color goes with everything, and no matter where I am or what I'm doing... they always make me feel cool.
Bag from Kate Spade (similar) // One of my first purchases from my NYC "big girl job" salary, this bag has been surprisingly versatile. It's color may be loud, but it's crossbody style makes it perfectly reliable.
Jewelry is vintage // I almost always gravitate towards family heirlooms for jewelry. The older I get the less I want what I wear to be cheap, especially rings and earrings. I'll still throw on costume necklaces and bracelets here and their, but family baubles are just more meaningful than the other stuff.
Beautiful summer dress,thanks for sharing.
