When I was a child my friends and I played a lot of pretend games. I'm sure you remember your own games of pretend. They were essential in fueling my creative spirit, and I think they helped us all shape who we wanted to be. Our imaginations are a reflection of our identities.

When I played these games, I was never a bride. I never played the damsel in distress and I certainly wasn't a princess locked in a tower. You see, my imagination fell somewhere between a space odyssey and "The Lord of the Rings". I always wanted to be the hero, I was the person destined to lead my imaginary world out of darkness. I fought the dragons and I was the one ruling nations and sending armies out to battle.

Even in life, I'm the hero of my own story. Every day I make sure that what I'm doing is working towards my greater goals. As Diane Von Furstenberg said, "The most important relationship you have in life is the relationship you have with yourself, because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself."

So I'll continue leading my troops to battle, both in the story of my life and the stories of my imagination. In the end, I'll be the one forging my destiny.
